Charmaine's Profile
I am an avid proponent of SAFe as it brings together all my years of experience, learning and knowledge into one framework. A reaffirming framework that supports my existing toolbox to assist organisations to be more efficient in their operations. I will guide the transformation of Agile in an organisation where leadership plays an important role in that transformation. SAFe/Agile/Scrum is the vehicle and I am fully aware of those aspects outside of this vehicle that need addressing for success.
I started out in the foreign waste department of Nedbank in 1985, transitioned to the ledger department and then moved into employee benefits. I managed all kinds of retirement funds from A to Z and eventually became a troubleshooter to resolve problems and then address the causes of problems within the employee benefits industry. This transition took me into Project Management. While obtaining my PMP and and completing my BCom degree, I took a risk and changed my career from employee benefits to project management and contracted in the financial industry, the tourism industry and mining industry. My passion drove me to train, facilitate and lecture in project, program and portfolio management as well as business analysis, design thinking and of course Agile ways of working. My first scrum project was in 2004 and by 2013 I had obtained my PMI-ACP (agile certified practitioner) which I also then facilitated.
During my PMP course I completed a leadership program which I was nominated for, under Mike Hepburn-Brown. This intense leadership program brought together vision, strategy, goals and business objectives and elevated the importance of business operations to realise these aspects. Not only was this highlighted in project, program and portfolio management but it is clearly reflected in the SAFe Framework.
I am a firm believer that an Agile mindset is a customer centric mindset along with organizing a team around the flow of value. I am fiercely passionate about effective intelligent leadership, strategic alignment, and execution. I love transferring knowledge to individuals and teams and seeing them excel. My motivation and drive is the implementation of best practices (my toolbox) from the many different frameworks that I have studied, experienced and had the opportunity to implement and teach other professionals. A firm believer of continuous learning at every level and continuous improvement by understanding causes of problems. I strongly believe in good risk management techniques and the quality trilogy i.e. plan in quality, quality assurance and quality control.
